WEEKLY LETTER 17/2024

Maxi (3–4-year-olds) Week 17

With surprise snow this week the children have had a renewed interest in snow men! They’ve enjoyed some extra outside play time early this week. Due to some absences our planned activities have been rearranged a bit, but we had an important talk about recycling; watching and discussing about what we saw in an educational recycling video. We celebrated a couple of birthdays and the children have each had a bit of helpful motivation with a new sticker system we are using. They each know some of the things they individually need to practice or be doing to earn their stickers.

Thursday’s activity involved a variety of materials and skills, with cutting, gluing, painting with forks and using watercolors also. The children created a sunny scene with a tree and grass.

On Friday many of the children enjoyed an extended play time while teachers worked with each child in turn in a special craft activity involving new materials. We’ve also been talking about and getting excited for Vappu next week!

Viskari-mestari (5-6-year-olds) Week 17

This Monday we continued with the theme of taking care of our environment. We discussed recycling, and then made something new out of the “scrap paper” that the children had thrown in the paper bin. Our viskarit and mestarit decided to craft wonderful things, and really showcased their creativity this way. They got to try different crafting materials, such as glitter and feathers. Tuesday’s trip was unfortunately postponed due to staff sickness. Instead each child got their dream colouring picture, and after that we went outside and made snowmen. Thankfully – hopefully – the winter season is finally over and we can welcome spring properly! :–D On Wednesday we continued the Franklin project, this time focusing on hair and eye colour and other physical attributes. Muskari went well. We also celebrated my birthday and everyone got some cookies. :–) On Thursday some children finished the Franklin project; otherwise the day was spent playing in small groups and doing relaxing activities. Hama beads have been especially popular this week. On Friday we started to make a special craft activity, using materials we had never used before. It was exciting and inspiring!
