WEEKLY LETTER 16/2024

MAXIS:

Dear parents, we had a fun and educational week in the daycare!

The focus was on expanding vocabulary related to clothing: flash card games, songs and videos helped us a lot. We played a listening game in which the children had to stand up if they had the type of clothes mentioned.

Our duckies also tested their listening and attention with an instructed coloring activity. Tasks like “Color the fox’s jacket green” and “Color the dog’s hat purple” absorbed the kids fully and they all displayed impressive readiness to listen and choose the correct color.

With the topic “Clothes & Seasons” we went even deeper by playing a discussion game in teams. Our Maxis were to decide what was appropriate to wear in each season. A wide vocabulary was used, and negotiation skills practiced 😁

As a cherry on the cake, this week Maxis had a relaxing fine motor skills session – modelling with play dough whilst enjoying beautiful classical music.

We finished the week with a special toy day acknowledging National Play Day. The kids had a chance to share and teach each other new games with their play buddy. It was a time to start new friendships, discover, learn and investigate through play.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend – filled with playing and having fun!

P.S.: Reminder to bring a glass jar for Monday – no paper or lids please

VISKARIT:

Yes! Spring is in the air, really! That means spring party, music, singing and more, the Viskari children sprang into their week with some singing, shakers and testing our stick-tapping skills, with Mr. Rob from the Prodigies Music channel.

During our afternoon, we heard what it can take to make a cake if you are a snake. As our “-ake” Word Family story shared the “almost” sad story about, “Jake the Snake and his Cake Mistake. ”Oh goodness, Oh my…an Octopus juggling an Orchestra! Outrageous but true!” Well, at least in our AlphaTale story for the Letter “O”.

Tuesday, we heard how it may not be a good idea to O-ver-do-it while juggling! Curious aren’t you, ask your Viskari child if they remember what happened to Olive the Octopus!

Wednesday’s math session gave us something to think about, like what can you buy with “Nine Bright Pennies”? Seems in our Numbertales book, our friend Sally may not have had a lot of money, but she was able to get many different things.  We then sang along with our “Counting by twos” song; and then separated into groups for a fun game of Dominoes.

Thursday morning’s activity was the anxiously awaited soccer event. After the nice morning walk, the children were happily laughing and running here and there, chasing soccer balls, and scoring against tough goalies! There was even time for short games and would you believe the daycare received two free soccer balls!

Friday’s plans were inspired by the Finnish National Play Day, and the children enjoyed sharing the toys they had brought with another child. The daycare also had special plans, to make sure all the children had a play-friend, for some more morning fun indoors, as well.

Yes, the week rolled by quickly and another week springs into place!

MESTARIT:

Greetings lovely preschool families!

Though we are well into the second half, happily preschool still has many minutes remaining (extra time and penalties if required). Our crafty through ball has been skillfully threaded through the eye of a needle and is looking very neat and tidy, so not Messi. The Styles of theatre have been revisited with an exploration of masks and emotions, we performed for each other with our own beautifully made masks and everyone left the audience wanting Moore.

Thankfully fewer priMaradonnas were on display at the football hall. We cannot thank the wonderful team at KAPY enough for the excellent morning we had. We saw many a Ronaldo, Mbappe and Rapino. Firstly, we checked our fitness to find who was niin kuin Pukki. We then tested our ball control to look for the next Lucy Bronze, kept our nerve like a budding young Ibrahimovic to slot the ball past the cat like reflexes of goalkeepers Sam and Schmeichel, before finally playing against each other in small teams.

Saturday, being as it is, Finland National Play Day, gave us inspiration to end the week by partnering up like De Bruyne and Haaland, and share in our play with the wonderful array of toys brought in.

Finn Club was syllables (Pe-le) and the letter J for Jurgen Klopp, Maths was the Vardy number 9, Lower case letters was a case of unscrambling words (like kelOdras chikenZok) and we still managed to squeeze in some Blue fox in the box games for a brainy-brain challenge.

On Friday we will venture to the athletics track in Lasilaakso for some Olympic challenges, so be aware we will be leaving the yard at 09.15.

Have a nice weekend and kindly remember that Leicester City are the greatest football team 🦊.
