VIIKKOKIRJE – WEEKLY LETTER 50/2020

MINIS:

Minis week started with crafting Finnish flags but also white and blue candles for the upcoming Independence Day celebration, developing their fine motor skills and creativity. On Tuesday, the group celebrated Finnish music day by listening to Jean Sibelius while focusing on making puzzles and playing. Later in the afternoon, kids enjoyed the last Muskari for this year, together with their beloved teacher Vilma. On Wednesday, Minis, Midis and Maxis went on a walking trip to the nearby forest where the children got to practice their gross motor skills and explore nature. Kids also sat on a big log in the forest for a small rest and had some cozy time drinking warm juice and having a small, tasty snack! On Thursday, we all celebrated Finnish Independence Day by dressing up formally, greeting the “Presidents” of the unit for this year, listening to the National anthem, dancing, and eating together. On Friday, the group enjoyed playing role play games and making puzzles in small groups, developing their social skills and imagination. Few Minis also got to play and spend the day in Midis side, practicing being part of the group since they will join them at the beginning of next year! It was another lovely week and looking forward for the next one!

MIDIS:

Midis started the week by crafting and decorating Santa’s binoculars. The children used toilet paper roles to make these fancy and unique binoculars. First, they glued a layer of red paper, then they used silk paper and cotton to fully decorate the binoculars. It was a success, the kids started to look for Santa Claus, the magic reindeer, different Christmas trees and more, using their invention. It was a good activity to develop fine motor skills and concentration. Outside, they could enjoy an obstacle course all over the yard, practicing waiting their turn, following the instructions, balance skills, etc. The next day was Sibelius Day. In the morning, the group listened to different songs created by the composer. During the afternoon, we hold the last Muskari of the season. On Wednesday, the whole unit went to the forest. Once into the woods, the children were able to drink hot juice and eat some cookies. They also enjoyed nature, collected sticks and more. Besides, they were singing songs. On Thursday, Pakila unit celebrated the Independence Day of Finland. During all day, the kids were wearing their best clothes for this special occasion. After playing outside, the kids hold the traditional handshaking, but using the new greeting form: the elbow touch (adapting to Covid times…). Then, they listened to the national anthem, danced, and listened to some Finnish songs. The kids, with white and blue scarf and fabrics danced with the music rhythm. We all ate together with a little surprise as a dessert. Friday was Play Day: through our play board, the kids could choose their favourite games to play and choose the participants to share those games. We also got few Minis on our side. They really enjoyed playing with us. It was a good week.

MAXIS:

Maanantain aloitimme kädentaidoilla. Marjutin johdolla askartelimme lumiukkoja. Jokainen sai toteuttaa omanlaisensa lumiukon ja nämä hienot teokset koristavat ikkunaamme. Ulkona oli koko etupihan temppurata, jossa harjaannutettiin erilaisia motorisia taitoja, kuten tasapainoa, ketteryyttä ja koordinaatiokykyä. Iltapäivällä askartelimme vielä Suomen liputkin. Tiistaina vietimme suomalaisen musiikin päivää. Kuuntelimme aamupiirissä Jean Sibeliuksen Finlandia hymnin sekä lauloimme joululauluja. Iltapäivällä oli tämän kauden viimeinen muskari. Kiitos Vilmalle!

Next week for Minis, Midis and Maxis:

Ensi viikon pyhitämme jouluisilla asioilla. Musiikki, tonttuleikit yms. kuuluvat ensi viikon ohjelmaan. Tiistaina vietämme koko talon lapsien ja henkilökunnan yhteistä joulujuhlaa.
