MINIS last week:
As usual we had a story time on Monday. On Tuesday we made Finnish candle-looking arts for Independence Day. The bigger Minis practised some scissor skills already. While the smaller Minis had fun painting paper rolls and ripping blue silk paper. On Wednesday we practised all the songs for the Christmas show. With some encouragement some of the Minis can sing already very well! On Thursday we had a party day. We said hello to the president and his wife. And we greeted Sana-Mari as well. And this while listening to our ‘Oi maamme’. We had a look at the flags and its colors and wondered why Finland has chosen those colors for the flag. After all the official parts were done, we danced, watched a video about a bear that celebrated Independence Day and did some arts and crafts as well. Last but not least, we have been opening the Christmas calendar this week. Every day there is a message from the elves with a fun activity. The most fun this week was the ‘tonttu nukkuu tonttu nukkuu’ game.

MIDI-MAXIS last week:
Monday was an educational day. As we explained the basics of Finland’s political system. Who can sign up for president and what does the president do? All Viskaris could volunteer to run for president. Then we voted. All Viskaris could also volunteer to run for president’s spouse, and the children voted again. After that one by one every child was encouraged to choose a special tittle as a party guest for Thursday. On Tuesday the Midi-maxis made beautiful Christmas tree decorations as well as Finnish flags. On Wednesday we practised all the songs for the Christmas songs during music class. And Viskaris practices their mathematical skills. Numbers 1 to 10 were written as well as connecting the correct number of dots with the correct number. Well done! On Thursday we had a blast at our Independence Day party. Everybody shook hands with Mister president and his spouse. All party members were introduced by their official tittles which the children had chosen themselves. After the official part we had fun dancing and doing games. On Friday we had P.E. There was a ‘tonttujumpa’ to be followed on the big screen, as well as a ‘soldier game’ during which they learned a fun dance. The after stretching was done by a stretch-story about a butterfly who travelled to the beach and had a confrontation with a shark!
